Love Yourself ~ Move Your Body ~ Live Free
What makes FLOW unique?

While FLOW Training works with a variety of ages and fitness levels, FLOW Training is an ideal match for those who seek a gentle, balanced, holistic sense of fitness training and connecting with the body. More specifically, FLOW hopes to encourage those who suffer from or who are at risk for disordered eating and exercise abuse to thrive physically and emotionally through balanced exercise, creative thinking and authentic movement. Whether you struggle with food, diets or exercise, or simply need encouragement to move and learn balanced exercise, FLOW believes freedom, peace and joy can be found in regular physical activity. The ability to connect to your body and breath aligns you with the deepest sense of yourself -- your true appetites for life.
Credible organizations like the CDC provide reasonable guidelines for exercise and physical activity, yet FLOW believes that by practicing balance and tuning into what you enjoy doing, you can achieve a sense of health and vitality without being strapped to too structured, rigid or excessive exercise and diet standards. Hallelujah!
Here's how FLOW works:
Every body is different. Every day is different. Sometimes we need to take it lightly with some flowing movements, sometimes we need to shake out some energy with fun cardiovascular movement like dancing or running or step power moves, sometimes we need to ground ourselves with strength training, sometimes we need to center ourselves with our breath and body awareness – sometimes, we need all four! Most importantly, connecting to the body's messages and deepest wisdom teaches us not only about our physical needs but also a wealth of information to help us lead rich, deeply connected lives with ourselves and others.
FLOW's Four Components of Fitness:
Whatever a client's history or background, FLOW encourages balanced fitness by providing a sampler of the four components of fitness:
1) resistance training
2) cardiovascular training
3) flexibility training
4) rest/stillness.
In order to introduce and eventually practice all four components above, Caroline, FLOW's owner and trainer, applies her experience as a dancer, "Stepper" and yogini to incorporate the following:
*yoga (Classical yoga - a blend of traditions)
*breathwork and meditation
*Pilates
*traditional and functional weight training
*cardiovascular training thru floor/Step aerobics & walking with clients
*authentic movement
Intuitive Fitness & Authentic Movement:
Intuitive Fitness - As time progresses with practicing the four components of fitness mentioned above, FLOW encourages a client to start asking herself how she feels, how she needs to move versus reverting to a flavorless sense of "shoulds". Instead of scheduling x many cardio days and x many weights days, FLOW steers the client to find movement they love. Do what you love, then complement that activity with other training components. If you love to run, you'll need rest days as well as complementary strength and flexibility training. If you love to take dance classes, you'll notice how a core-focused exercise routine can make your movement more graceful, expressive and satisfying. Tune in to find out what you need to feel connected. Eventually, you'll be able to sense what combination of resistance, cardiovascular and flexibility training your body needs and your spirit wants in a balanced, nourishing amount.
Authentic Movement - Authentic movement is like a dancing branch of intuitive fitness, which comes after the traditional forms of training, where you tune into your body to see what it needs for the day, but instead of a traditional form of movement, it's more like free form movement in a safe environment. This is an extremely helpful practice to help people connect with the body's deepest needs or desires not only for movement but for rest, creativity, communication, nourishment, etc.
While there might be countless, creative ways to demonstrate these types of training ultimately leading to intuitive fitness, FLOW tunes into the client to meet her where she feels comfortable. FLOW's method is gentle, patient and encouraging, allowing the client to move at her own pace, to listen to her body, to gain strength and freedom on her own accord because she is ultimately the captain of her own ship.
